Dawn Adams and Shane Frans opened The Nature of Things, Fine Flowers and Botanicals in August 2011. Their floral creativity stemmed from their farming and gardening background. Dawn has been in the industry as a floral designer for over 15 years prior to opening The Nature of Things. Their vision for The Nature of Things consists of offering creative floral designs using one-of-a-kind arrangements and unusual vases, pots, and other containers. They also enjoy seeking out vintage and salvage items that can be used for their arrangements. What is especially unique about The Nature of Things is that most of their flowers are grown locally in their test garden. Dawn and Shane have long-term plans to add a small nursery to the business.

The Nature of Things utilizes social media and local directories to promote the business and increase search engine optimization. Word of mouth is another tool that has increased their reach to the local community. One way that Dawn and Shane market weddings is through networking with wedding planners, photographers, caterers, etc. The Nature of Things is listed on many local vendor lists such as the Riverside Convention Center, Marriott, and Highland Springs Resort.

Downtown Riverside was chosen as their location of choice for its history, old architecture, and new construction opportunities. Dawn and Shane are extremely fond of their location in the Pritchard Building on 9th and Lemon and enjoy working with fellow business owners like Le Mongeon Salon, Cruz Custom Tailors, Sweet Epies, and Downtown Cleaners.

A first time customer at The Nature of Things can expect attentive care from Dawn and Shane. “We can handle anything from the smallest, most intimate gathering to large corporate events and treat every client with equal importance and attention.  We also listen intently to our wedding clients, as it is our desire that the flowers for such an important event reflect the personalities of the couple.  We offer creative and one-of-a-kind design ideas that will be beautiful and memorable and approach the design process as a creative partnership.  The shop’s cooler is always filled with gorgeous fresh flowers and interesting and often unusual botanical materials and foliages, stunning orchids, and beautiful succulent plant compositions such as succulent frames,” says Dawn.

Dawn also says that they “are seeing a movement towards using locally grown and seasonal flowers, designed in a classic, natural style in vintage or vintage-inspired containers such as footed bowls and garden style urns and pots.  The farmer-florist is keeping the floral industry interesting, informative, and exciting.  Most of our designs include unique, interesting, and texturized botanical materials and foliages, as well as stunning fresh flowers.  Our goal when designing everything from a daily gift order to weddings of all sizes or corporate events, is to surprise and delight our clients and those that receive our flowers.  We also offer a lot of unique succulent plant compositions, such as a large variety of succulent frames.”
